Police investigations revealed that Griffiths lived alone and was found dead a few days later, with traces of blood in the kitchen and bedroom. Police, initially baffled by the death, later identified hamburgers as the cause of the tragedy.

Chief Inspector Jonathan Rees, who was in charge of the investigation, noted that the bottom drawer of the freezer was open, making it easy to access items. Next to the fridge, two raw hamburgers, a knife and a dish towel were found.

The abdominal wound was at a height consistent with the kitchen work surface, leading to the hypothesis that Griffiths was trying to separate his burgers.

The victim’s cell phone, wallet and computer were still in place, and there were no signs of disturbance in the apartment. Detective Stephen Vaughan said he believed it was not a suicide, but rather an “unexplained death,” noting there were no signs of aggression. Blood was found in the hallway, bathroom and bedroom.
