A murder investigation has been opened following the death of a man hit by a TGV at Boucau station (Pyrénées-Atlantiques) this Friday, September 20, reports the Bayonne prosecutor’s office.
A terrible tragedy this Friday, September 20th in the morning at Boucau station (Pyrénées-Atlantiques). At around 8:30 am, the emergency services were called to help a man who had been hit by a train. When the firefighters arrived, the 30-year-old man in the South-West was in cardio-respiratory arrest. They were unable to revive him. He was pronounced dead at 9:40 am by France Bleu doctors.
The train was examined by investigators
“The circumstances of the death are still under investigation” to determine whether it was an accident or suicide, the prosecutor said. When met by investigators, the driver of the TGV Hendaye-Bordeaux explained that he had informed his superiors after the collision with what he thought was an animal near Boucau station, where the TGV did not stop. Stopping at Bordeaux station, the train was examined by investigators.
Sud-Ouest specifies that delays are expected on the Bayonne-Dax line. In fact, train traffic will have to be stopped while emergency services and law enforcement intervene. Buses have been prepared to support tourists and replace certain trains.
