Ten Americans between the ages of 10 and 40 contracted trichinellosis after eating undercooked bear meat in North Carolina in late 2023.
According to CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention) in a newsletter published on October 10. This infection, trichinellosis, can cause serious symptoms such as facial swelling, muscle aches and fever, BFMTV reports.

The suspected outbreak was discovered in November 2023, after gathering in the western part of the state. “All probable cases have been linked to consumption of undercooked bear meat,” explains the CDC. Infected people between the ages of 10 and 40 had characteristic signs of the disease after eating bear meat.
