Criminals hijacked seven buses to use as barricades on Estrada do Itanhangá, in the western zone of Rio de Janeiro. Rioin the early afternoon of this Wednesday, 16. The criminal action took place in response to an operation of the Special Operations Battalion (BOPE) in the community of Tijuquinha. The information is on TV Globo.

The transport union reported that the miscreants forced the passengers out of the vehicle and crossed the vehicles on the road. The bandits blocked both directions of the road, leading to a huge traffic jam.

“This type of strategy that criminals are using to distract the military police from where we are operating, trying to create this smoke screen, bringing disorder, chaos to innocent people,” said military police spokeswoman Lt. Col. Claudia Moraes.

The situation is not unusual in Rio de Janeiro and in the last 12 months 130 buses have been used as barricades in communities. In addition, between August last year and August this year, 32 collectives were burned down.
