After receiving the support of the PT wing in the Londrina (PR) mayoral election, candidate Maria Teresa (PP) banned comments that mention President Lula’s party and the word “left” on her social networks. Users can even write terms, but comments are not visible to other people.
When contacted, the campaign said “some words have been blocked” due to suspected “bot attacks” the application had suffered. The team claims it has been targeted by fake profile activity since the start of the election race.
Londrina is the second most populous city in Paraná, a state currently considered a conservative stronghold. Teresa finished the first round with 23.64% of the vote, behind Thiago Amaral (PSD). Backed by Bolsonaro’s PL, the state lawmaker had 42.69% of the vote.
Given this scenario, Theresa’s campaign will have to convert conservative votes, while at the same time hoping to attract voters who voted for progressive parties. In the city, PT and PDT fielded their own candidates, and together these acronyms accounted for about 11% of the valid votes.
Faced with Teresa’s resistance to embracing the progressive agenda, the PT in Londrina decided to free its members to support whoever they wanted in the second round. However, the municipal directory issued a note that spoke of “combating boggarism”.
