Festival grounds open – Oktoberfest guests storm the tents

Race to the beer tents: At exactly 9am, the organizers open the entrance to the Oktoberfest grounds – and Oktoberfest fans rush to the beer tents. Now more and more visitors are arriving from all over, most of them in dirndls and lederhosen.

The first people are already waiting in the morning, some with blankets, thermoses and coffee, some with beer. However, Oktoberfest guests have to wait another three hours before they get their first Oktoberfest beer in Munich.

Mayor Dieter Reiter (SPD) will tap the first keg of beer at midnight and open the festival. Only when Reiter celebrates a peaceful Oktoberfest with Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) will the beer flow for the guests.

Around six million visitors are expected in the Bavarian capital on October 6.
