Desiree Mariotini’s murder, convictions upheld for all accused: Supreme Court ruling

The final two verdicts in the murder of Desiree Mariotini, the sixteen-year-old girl found lifeless on October 19, 2018 after being abused in an abandoned building on Via dei Lucani in the San Lorenzo district of Rome, have become final.

The verdict

The Court of Cassation upheld the May 29 sentence handed down by the Court of Sentences in the second appeal, by which the judges sentenced Mamadou Gara, 22, and Alino Chima, 26. Two other defendants, Brian Minte and Youssef Salia, had already been sentenced to 18 years and life in prison, respectively. All are charged, in varying degrees, with murder, sexual assault, drug distribution and death by other crime.
