47 years after the incident, a man was arrested for a double murder after being found thanks to his DNA.

Australian police say they want to extradite the alleged killer, an Australian-Greek citizen who was arrested at the Italian capital’s airport on Thursday and is being held in custody. The suspect was identified by DNA testing from a family member, according to Australian tabloid The Age of Melbourne. The information has not been confirmed by police. The man reportedly lives in Greece, the newspaper said.

Stabbing

“For more than 47 years, homicide detectives have worked tirelessly to identify the perpetrators,” said Shane Patton, Senior Inspector, Victoria Police, Melbourne Region.

The bodies of the two women were found with stab wounds on January 13, 1977, at their home. Suzanne’s son, then 16 months old, was found safe and sound in his crib.
