The Supreme Electoral Court (TSE) upheld the decision that declared the former mayor of Lages Eliseu Matos (MDB), who is running for mayor, ineligible. With that, all the votes he got on October 6 were nullified.

The decision increased the percentage of valid votes of elected mayor Carmen Zanoto (Citizenship) to 77.16%, followed by Leo Marin (Union) with 17.78% of valid votes.
Eliseu Matos’ candidacy was rejected on the eve of the election by Minister Floriano Azevedo Marquez at the TSE. The impasse occurred because Eliseu, then mayor of Lages, resigned from his post amid impeachment proceedings in the House of Councilors in 2016.
The Public Ministry’s thesis, accepted by the TSE, is that he is still unelectable and cannot run for new elections.
