Sarah Ferguson made a heartfelt statement about her 65th birthday as she talks about her recent health scares.

The Duchess of York celebrated her birthday on Tuesday and received thousands of wishes from people all over the world.

After attending an event in London to raise vital funds for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, the Duchess made a statement about Instagram reflecting the last year.

The mum-of-two wrote: ‘Thank you for all your lovely birthday wishes! I feel incredibly grateful to be here every day, to smell the flowers, to read and write, and to be able to see my daughters and grandchildren.

“It’s been an extraordinary, full year – a year of recovery and growth – and I just feel so lucky.

Fergie said Hello!: “I have to get regular check-ups and I have to put cream on my face to avoid sun damage, which means big blisters on my face, chest and arms for three weeks.

“But I’m not doing immunotherapy, I’m not taking any drugs or chemotherapy, which I’m very grateful for.

“I’ve always raised my girls to be so honest and upfront that they know I’m going to tell them straight up, no matter how hard it is.

“So when they said, ‘Mum, tell us the absolute truth – did they get all the cancer out?’ and the answer was yes, they knew they were safe.”
