Ciudad Juarez.- Following the 38-year prison sentence handed down this afternoon against Mexico’s former secretary of public security in Felipe Calderon’s six-year term, Genaro García Luna, Ciudad Juarez Mayor Cruz Pérez Cuellar said it “came very cheap.”

Pérez Cuellar made a post on all his social networks saying “Despite all the damage this guy did, it came out very cheap…” accompanied by the photo of the former security officer with the caption “KEY MINUTE: García Luna sentenced to more than 38 years in prison in the United States on five counts of drug trafficking.

This afternoon in the United States, Judge Brian Cogan sentenced Garcia Luna to 38 years in prison on five drug-trafficking charges, in addition to a $2 million fine on one of the charges, and at the end of his sentence he will have 5 years probation.

During his command (by Genaro García Luna), Ciudad Juárez experienced the “war on drug trafficking, a stage in which it became the most violent city in the world.
