“Die AfD is a fundamentally fascist party,” Wiesler told the Editorial Network Germany (RND). “AfD’s rising vote shares are a growing threat to democracy. The ability to ban parties is designed for just such cases,” Whistler explained. “It is no accident that the AfD is described as the parliamentary arm of right-wing terrorism,” Whistler said. “It encourages, associates and legitimizes right-wing perpetrators of violence, and in some cases even employs them in their parliamentary offices.”

She continued: “Banning the AfD could deprive the far-right of access to public and party funding. It’s time for a party that is the enemy of democracy and virtually everything that has been achieved in social progress in recent decades to stop feeding itself with tax money.” In addition, banning the AfD would be a blow to right-wing structures, Wiesler said. It is high time that such a procedure was requested.

Banning the AfD must be “accompanied by policy change,” Whistler insisted. “We need a practical policy of social cohesion and a policy that enables good living conditions for all.”
