Miguel dos Santos Gonçalves, 24, was arrested by the Amazonas Civil Police (PC-AM) on suspicion of murdering Gerlande Silva de Sena, 43, in December 2023. He is accused of hiding the victim’s body almost a year. The arrest was made on Wednesday (16).
According to the police, the man was killed with a rifle and a blow to the head with an ax. The crime was committed on December 17, 2023 at the Pau Rosa junction, kilometer 21 of the federal highway BR-174.
At the time, the perpetrator and the victim were drinking alcoholic beverages and had an argument. During the fight, Miguel hit Gerlande in the head with an ax and also shot at him.
Investigations show that after the crime, Miguel took Gerlande’s body to the back of a property where he buried it in a shallow grave discovered by police nearly a year after the crime.
PC-AM agents excavated the site indicated by the suspect and found Gerlande’s remains, which were sent to the Institute of Legal Medicine (IML) for proper procedures.
The suspect is available for justice.
