The speech of the Minister of Defense, José Mucio, about a candidacy won by Israel, but blocked by the Government, generated concern among members of the Executive.

According to information obtained by the column, this Wednesday the 9th, Mucio’s statement “did not go down well.”

The assessment of two Itamaraty sources is that the minister would not have needed to have mentioned the fact at the event, so as not to give the impression that Planalto “has sides” in the fight between Israel and Hamas.

“There was now a contest, a bidding process,” said the minister, during an event that took place yesterday at the National Confederation of Industry. “The Jews, the people of Israel, won, but because of the war, Hamas and ideological issues, we cannot approve it.”
