Fürth coach Alexander Zorniger has great respect for Fortuna Düsseldorf’s resilience and consistency. Before Friday’s home game (18.30) against the league leaders, the coach of the Franconian second division football team spoke about the Rhinelanders’ promotion failure last season. “The fact that you come back straight away after not being promoted at the last minute,” praised Zorniger, while also mentioning the focus and clear style of play of Daniel Thioune’s team.
At the end of last season, the Düsseldorf team won the first leg of the relegation at VfL Bochum 3-0 and looked like a sure mover. But in the second leg, they lost 5-6 on penalties. “They underestimated it, we have to be ready for that,” Zorniger said of Fortuna this season. The Fürth team has even won its last eight home games against Düsseldorf.
After last week’s 2-0 defeat to bottom side Eintracht Braunschweig, Zorniger is hoping his team will show more courage. “We have to be more active than in the last game,” he demanded. “We have to be braver in our own situations.” Defenders Luca Itter and Marco Meyerhöfer are set to return.
