If you own an iPad, you should check your settings and download the latest update from Apple. The US tech giant has just confirmed the release of iPadOS 18, which is packed with changes and new features like the Calculator app. Yes, after years of waiting, your iPad can finally count sums without having to install third-party software.

It’s worth noting that this isn’t just any old calculator either, this is a very smart upgrade that allows you to manually enter numbers, equations and algebra with the answer or graphs appearing on the screen.

“Designed for iPad’s unique capabilities, Calculator offers a completely new way to use Apple Pencil to solve expressions, as well as basic and scientific calculators with a new history function and unit conversions,” Apple explained.

It’s unclear why it took Apple so long to come up with a calculator, but once you use this new app, you’ll see why it was worth the wait.

In addition to this update, there’s a lot more in iPadOS 18, including a new way to customize your home screen. You can now move apps anywhere on the screen – instead of being locked into the traditional grid system – and apply unique color tones to those apps to suit your taste.

The popular Control Center has also been redesigned to give you easy access to the things you need every day. You can even customize it according to your needs and add third-party services to this panel for the first time.

Notes written with the Apple Pencil can also be cleaned up and edited automatically, making things look a little more professional.

There’s also a new Photos app that helps you find photos faster and better ways to message with all-new animated text effects and redesigned Tapbacks.

“Our favorite device is getting even more powerful and intelligent with iPadOS 18,” said Craig Federighi, Apple’s vice president of software engineering.

“With fun new ways to customize the Home screen, a revamped Photos experience, significant updates to the Notes app, added Calculator with Math Notes and the groundbreaking Apple Intelligence app, iPadOS 18 brings incredible new features designed for unique features on iPad that make users making tasks even easier.”
