You can now transfer your playlists from Apple Music to YouTube Music and back

You can now officially transfer playlists between Apple Music and YouTube Music. Apple has published two help documents (linked as Sources below) that outline what you need to do to switch from one service to the other.

Before you ask – no, there is no official way to go from Apple Music to Spotify or Spotify to Apple Music. For now, it’s just Apple Music to YouTube Music or YouTube Music to Apple Music.

Note that only playlists that you create are transferred (including playlists that you own). Music files, non-collaborative shared playlists and playlists that you choose, and folders in which you organize your Apple Music playlists are not transferred.

If the Apple Music playlist you want to transfer contains podcasts, audiobooks, or user-uploaded audio files, they won’t be transferred, only the songs in the playlists. If the service you want to transfer to doesn’t have the specific songs, then of course they won’t be transferred.

The entire process, regardless of direction, should typically take a few minutes, but could take up to a few hours depending on how many playlists you’re transferring. Full instructions for transferring can be found in the resources below.
