Amid a presidential transition in which Morena is seeking to appease investors, Gabriel Yorio will leave deputy finance minister and will be replaced by Édgar Amador Zamora, sources from the federal government confirmed to Grupo REFORMA.
President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum said yesterday that Yorio would go to an “international institution” and that was the reason for his resignation, although she did not confirm Amador’s arrival. Rogelio Ramírez de la O will continue to serve as head of SHCP.
Amador, originally from Monclova, has a degree in Economics from UNAM and a master’s degree in Economics from El Colegio de México. He served as head of the CDMX Financial Secretariat from December 2012 to April 2018 and worked closely with the AMLO Government in the department between 2000 and 2006 under the command of Carlos Urzúa and Arturo Herrera.
Yorio has been a key interlocutor with Wall Street investors and banks since the start of the current administration. He was a figure of stability at a time when the department had three starters during the first half of his six-year tenure.
Since last February he has been running for a position at an international organization based in Washington. Relations between Ramírez de la O and Yorio are so tense that a few days ago Ramírez de la O and Yorio asked Sheinbaum to fire the deputy minister.
