A Bavarian baker is looking for staff. He is looking for an apprentice, but he does not want to work because otherwise his family allowance will be cut.
As in many other trades, there was a shortage of staff at Mühldorf baker Franz Strohmaier. He was looking for support for weekend sales. He approached an apprentice. According to the “Oberbayerisches Volksblatt”, the baker said he offered him a job in sales.
But he refused. “If he earns, the family allowance will be reduced. It’s a paradox. He will help me,” OVB quoted the baker as saying. This is not an isolated case; in order not to jeopardize the subsidy, refugees are repeatedly refused work.

Baker Till Gurka is making headlines with his unconventional concept. He has reinterpreted the traditional craft of baking by moving the opening hours of his bakery “Till und Brot” in Freiburg to 11am.
