Without their injured German international striker Niclas Füllkrug, London club West Ham United suffered another significant defeat. The “Hammers” were eliminated from the English League Cup in the third round with a 1:5 (1:1) defeat at Liverpool FC.

Jarell Quansah’s own goal put West Ham ahead in the 21st minute. Then Portugal’s Diogo Jota (25/49), Egypt’s Mohamed Salah (74) and Netherlands’ Cody Gakpo (90 (90+3) scored for Jürgen Klopp’s old club. West Ham’s Edson Alvarez was still shown a red card (77).

Füllkrug moved from Borussia Dortmund to the Premier League before this season. The 31-year-old was already absent from his new club’s last weekend London derby against Chelsea FC (0:3) due to an Achilles tendon injury. West Ham are now winless in four competitive games.
