According to people from Sovereign Poland in PiS, they are afraid of protests against the choice of presidential candidate. Parts of Sovereign Poland still believe that entry into the party should be negotiated with PiS, but only on condition of a quick presidential primary, in which Patryk Jaki would also participate. According to many of our interlocutors – interestingly, not only from Sovereign Poland – he would be the candidate who would have the best chance of getting almost the entire party to work for him. At least the SP politicians would not oppose him. But there is also the Morawiecki faction, which would certainly not accept Patryk Jaki. The belief that Jaki is the candidate who guarantees unity is therefore an illusion.
Morawiecki’s faction is said to be the most likely to join forces with Sovereign Poland, paradoxically.
Why is Sovereign Poland afraid of unification with PiS?
– It seems that they thought that once we are formally part of the PiS it will be easier to pacify us – say our interlocutors from the SP.
This seems obvious, because if the SP joins the PiS before the official nomination of the candidate and without any negotiated influence on this decision, then no one will care about their boos. And the PiS is increasingly sending signals that any search for a candidate will end with someone well known and not very fond of – somewhere between the former prime minister and the former deputy prime minister. The scenario that the PiS no longer has the time or resources to “create Duda 2.0” is increasingly being raised. It needs to bring in someone the voters know and work with what it has.
What does this mean for Sovereign Poland? In short, the SP fears that when it joins PiS, it will turn out that Morawiecki is the candidate. And the former people of Zbigniew Ziobro will be forced to work for a politician whom they considered for years to be President Kaczyński’s biggest mistake and whom they actively fought against.
The merger of the parties that recently formed the United Right government will take place during the congress in Przysucha on September 28. Although there have been rumors recently that the parties will not be able to reach an agreement by then.
