In early September, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that he was endorsing Kamala Harris in November’s US presidential election.

Observers who commented on Putin’s remarks thought it was ironic because in the same week, President Joe Biden’s administration announced a series of sanctions in connection with Russia’s efforts to interfere in this year’s US election.

– As for the favorite, it is not up to us to decide. This is the choice of the American people. Our favorite is Mr. Joe Biden. He withdrew from the race but recommended supporting Ms. Harris. And we will do just that, we will support her, Putin said at the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov was asked to evaluate Putin’s remarks. In an interview with Sky News Arabia, the diplomat indicated that the president’s remarks were just a joke.
