Although speculations about Mariusz Błaszczak, MP Mariusz Błaszczak, being the future leader of PiS, Third Way representative Barbara Oliwiecka compared the “Rymanowski Breakfast” program on Polsat News to the TV series “Moda na Głosu”, the comparison seems to be more accurate when dealing with another topic. Once again, it became clear how incapable the ruling coalition is of reaching an agreement on the abortion issue. And when it comes to details and the fact that, according to 62% of Poles, the coalition is not fulfilling them, MP Oliwiecka stated that “We need to distinguish ‘100 specifics’, that is, the promises of the PO, of the coalition agreement, that we are fulfilling.”
Although “100 specifics in 100 days” have been waiting to be fulfilled for 10 months, the December 13 Coalition still cannot reach an agreement on ideological issues. At the Poland Campus of the Future, Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that in the current Sejm term there is no majority to fully liberalize abortion rights, but “there will be a completely different practice in the prosecutor’s office and in Polish hospitals.” The Left co-chairman and deputy speaker of the Sejm, Włodzimierz Czarzasty, announced at the same event: “I will not give up a millimeter in this term,” arguing that next year, after the change of speaker (the coalition hopes that this will be someone from its camp), there will also be a change in the abortion law.
““Half-truths” from leaders
Differences of opinion within the coalition were also visible during the discussion on the “Rymanowski Breakfast” program on Polsat News. According to Deputy Minister of State Assets and Left MP Marcin Kulasek: “perhaps there really is some half-truth in both statements.”
We all know that when Andrzej Duda becomes president this situation will not change. But if a more liberal politician became president, some things could change.
– he said.
Kulasek also stated that the left would talk to 14 PSL deputies who opposed the so-called bailout act.
We know who basically blocked this bill. Some things can be resolved through compromise; a law can be passed that at least decriminalizes abortion care.
– he emphasized.
KO MP Zbigniew Konwiński assured that there were no “discords” in the coalition.
Here we have already started talking about the vote on the bill that would guarantee that a mother who bought a pill for her daughter in a crisis situation would not be prosecuted. The discussion shows that these two issues [częściowa dekryminalizacja i depenalizacja] they mix together. We don’t give up (…)
— he stressed, stating that the issue of abortion “was not the subject of coalition agreements” and that he was not optimistic about this issue.
““You won’t do well”
PiS MP Marcin Przydacz drew attention to divisions in the coalition over abortion.
If you can’t agree on decriminalizing abortion, you won’t agree on 12 weeks.
– he assessed.
Now there will be great and gigantic pressure on the PSL deputies from the PO – a party that calls itself a Christian democracy.
– he added.
The PiS politician assessed that PO “left Christianity a long time ago”.
He is under pressure from the radical left, including strongly left-wing politicians from his party. We believe that modernization projects are the most important for Poland, which the PO is not doing. This is a substitute issue, we need to start an ideological war.
– said Przydacz.
Furthermore, the advisor to the President of the Republic of Poland, Alvin Gajadhur, described abortion as one of the “surrogate topics”.
The implementation of other specificities is progressing very slowly.
– he pointed.
What about the details?
When asked by the host about the Pollster survey for “Super Express”, where 62 percent of respondents stated that the government does not fulfill its promises, Third Way MP Barbara Oliwiecka easily found an excuse:
We need to distinguish “100 specifics”, that is, the PO’s promises, from the coalition agreement that we are fulfilling.
Not all voters make this distinction. We must say what we are doing as the October 15 Coalition. There were high expectations when it came to the liberalization of abortion.
– she said, remembering that all the groups that form the coalition presented their projects.
The Sejm is more conservative than society
– she added.
According to politicians, Poles want changes on the issue of abortion, but this is not the only issue on which the coalition parties went to the elections.
The liberalization bill is unlikely to pass the Sejm, but there will be no political support for the prosecutor prosecuting the mother [kupującą córce tabletkę „dzień po”]. If we can’t take big steps, let’s take smaller steps.
– added Oliwiecka, explaining that restoring the embryopathological basis for abortion or organizing a referendum is what the conservative PSL deputies would agree on.
“The role of the Confederation was important
Donald Tusk doesn’t just tell half-truths, he also tells untruths. He promised to legalize abortion and here he may be telling the truth that has no majority
– said Bartłomiej Pejo from Konfederacja.
The role of the Confederation was important, including: our votes decided that the project was not approved. Donald Tusk capitulated and admitted that it made no sense to continue on this issue. I hope that he will address more serious issues: the economy and the deficit.
– he added.
Fear of failure?
And while the issue of abortion is reminiscent of the TV series “The Bold and the Beautiful,” MEP Oliwiecka used this comparison in reference to one of the other topics of today’s talks, namely the possible takeover of the PiS leadership by former head of the Ministry of National Defense Mariusz Błaszczak. In an interview with Radio Maryja, PiS chairman Jarosław Kaczyński admitted that he would be “very happy” if this politician were to replace him in the future.
“Fashion for success”, fashion for PiS, but fashion for PiS is passing. Here is the “drama” of Mrs. Beata Szydło, here are young politicians who have hope, sit quietly, try very well…
– Oliwiecka said, adding that she would be happy with Błaszczak’s election as PiS president because it “would not strengthen” the currently largest opposition force.
Zbigniew Konwiński from the PO was also happy with this scenario.
Let’s not bother them, let’s let them follow this scenario (…). I support – Błaszczak for PiS leader
– he said with a smile. PiS’s Marcin Przydacz responded, adding that behind this reaction “there is already the fear of defeat in the next elections”.
The president has no plans to change his political position in the coming weeks or months. He is the leader of this environment.
– he pointed.
When asked whether Mariusz Błaszczak or former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki would be better as president, Przydacz noted:
Both have great skills: the first in defense policy, the second in state management.
He added that any decisions will be taken with the participation of the entire PiS community.
This means that all representatives of the ruling coalition are unanimously and impatiently awaiting the political reform of the PiS president and other alternative issues such as abortion, but they are unable to communicate here. However, when it comes to fulfilling their election promises, they are no longer so open to discussion.
