A 1968 classic Padosanstarring Saira Banu, Sunil Dutt, Mehmood, Kishore Kumar, Om Prakash, Mukri and Keshto Mukherjee among others, remains one of the most iconic comedies in Hindi cinema. The film has been renewed in theaters on Friday (September 13). Kamal Haasan once shared an interesting anecdote about his relationship with Hindi films in particular Padosanstarted He recalled that Hindi films were not screened in Chennai for many years because of strong opposition to the imposition of the language on Tamils. He and others attended a screening of Padosan to protest, as they were told the film mocked South Indians. However, much to their surprise, they left the theater as fans, especially Mehmood, whose role in the film won them over. Years later, when Kamal met Mehmood, he recounted this experience, which marked the beginning of his renewed interest in Hindi cinema.
The veteran actor said, “Hindi films were never shown in Chennai for many years because of the fervor of forcing the language on Tamils. When I went to see Padosan, I went to protest against it – we had been told it was a film where South Indians were mocked. As a fan of Mehmood Saab, we came out smiling . I told Mehmood Saab this story many years later when I met him again.”
The film’s official synopsis read: “The bus journey is an adventurous one with passengers, a completely mixed bunch from all over India, different religions, cultures and religions, all brought together for this journey. The bus is ‘controlled’ by driver Rajesh (Anwar Ali) and conductor Khanna (Mehmood).

Directed by Shankar, Indian 2 continues the story of Senapathy, a character played by Kamal Haasan, who returns to India to fight corruption after being invited by a group of young activists.
