WhatsApp testing: Like responses to status updates on Android, unknown account message blocking coming soon

WhatsApp has been working on a quick response feature for status updates for a few months now, and it looks like the public rollout of the feature is getting closer, as the Meta-owned platform has begun testing it on Android in the beta version 2.24.17.21 of the app.

Users will see a heart-shaped “Like” button next to the “Reply” text field when viewing a status, allowing them to like a status update. And when someone likes your status, you’ll see it in the status viewers list, similar to Instagram Stories. WhatsApp will also let users decide whether they want to receive notifications about these like reactions.

Another feature that WhatsApp is developing focuses on user security and privacy. It will allow users to block messages from unknown accounts. Once this feature is enabled, WhatsApp will automatically block messages from unknown accounts if they exceed a certain size.

The feature is currently in development and not yet available to even beta users, so there’s no telling how long it will take for WhatsApp to roll it out to the public.
