WhatsApp has been busy adding new features left and right lately, and it doesn’t plan on stopping anytime soon. Today, it released a new beta version of the Android app (2.24.17.19) that brings with it initial support for chat themes.
As you can see in the screenshot below, this feature is still in early development but will be available soon. It will allow you to choose a chat theme that will change the color of your messages and the chat wallpaper.
If you’ve ever used Facebook Messenger, you know what to expect, as the app has had chat themes for years. WhatsApp, like in many other ways, is just catching up.
If you want to test beta features of WhatsApp on Android, you need to be on the beta track, which you can sign up for from the Play Store listing. However, it is important to note that signups are not open all the time.
Given how long it typically takes for new WhatsApp features to move from beta to stable, we assume chat themes will be available to everyone by the end of the year.
