Musk’s tweet was also criticized by the White House.
The US Secret Service has launched an investigation into Elon Musk’s since-deleted tweet in which he wrote that “no one is even trying” to kill President Joe Biden or Democratic candidate Kamala Harris.
Bloomberg writes about the inspection. In response to the publication’s request, the Secret Service said records of Musk’s post “were collected for law enforcement purposes” and are not being released because they could interfere with law enforcement proceedings.
As Axios notes, the investigation does not mean Musk will face any liability, but he will likely have to prove he does not pose a threat to Joe Biden or Kamala Harris.
On the evening of September 15, Musk reposted a post from another social media user, which read: “Why do they want to kill Donald Trump?” Musk accompanied his new post with the following message: “And no one is even trying to kill Biden or Kamala.”
Users asked Musk to delete the tweet, but he refused to do so. He ended up deleting the tweet the next day, claiming it was a joke. Musk’s post was criticized in the White House.
“As President Biden and Vice President Harris said following yesterday’s disturbing news, ‘there is no place in our country for political violence, or violence of any kind,’ and ‘we must all do our part to ensure that this incident does not lead to further violence,'” a Biden administration official said.
US elections: Musk’s position
Earlier, Elon Musk admitted that US presidential candidate Kamala Harris “exceeded most people’s expectations” in the debate with Donald Trump.
As the entrepreneur wrote, he does not consider the debate fair. While Musk praised Harris, he said he would continue to support Trump. The entrepreneur is confident that unless significant government reform is carried out, “laws and regulations will get worse every year.”
