– The water is rising very quickly, there are massive floods, exceeding the alarm level, already on more than 50 rivers in the Lower Silesian and Opole Voivodeships. This situation will get even worse, Brig. Kierzkowski said. He said that the night and Sunday will be crucial – a day when there will be heavy rains.
The spokesman for the Chief Commander of the State Fire Service stressed that rains and river floods are not the only problem. – In the east of the country we have hurricane winds and tornadoes, including: in the Masovian Voivodeship, but also in the Lublin, Świętokrzyskie and Łódź provinces. The southern and central parts of the country are subject to weather warnings that are really causing a lot of damage, he said.
Due to the situation, firefighters intervened about 4,000 times on Saturday, Kierzkowski said. “This is not the end, the day is still going on, we have a very difficult night ahead of us,” he added. “I appeal to all residents: be patient, vigilant and listen to the orders of the services, check the communications, because this is crucial. If there is information that water is approaching, we recommend evacuation, so this is very well thought out,” he said.
The spokesman told Polsat News that people leaving their homes should not be afraid for their belongings because the police will protect them. – Everything is guarded by firefighters, police officers, everything is guarded – he noted.
