Weekly Poll: Could the vivo V40 or vivo V40 Pro be your next phone?

This week vivo introduced the V40 duo, a pair of mid-range models that focus on durability and camera features. Okay, the V40 has been around for a while now, but this is the first time it’s being launched in India. The Pro model is all new.

Starting with the vivo V40 Pro, it offers higher performance with the Dimensity 9200+ chipset and faster UFS 3.1 storage. It also has a telephoto lens, a 50MP module with 2x optical zoom.

The Vivo V40 lacks a telephoto camera and uses the less powerful but still fairly fast Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset with UFS 2.2 storage. Both phones use the same wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle cameras on the back, as well as the same selfie modules.

That means a 50MP main (1/1.56″ sensor, OIS) and a 50MP ultra-wide (119°). On the front, a pretty impressive 50MP module with a 21mm wide autofocus lens. Both the front and rear cameras can record 4K video at 30 fps.

Other things worth mentioning include a 6.78-inch curved OLED display (1260p+, 120Hz, up to 4,500 nits) and a large 5,500mAh battery with 80W fast charging (wired only). We mentioned durability, so here are the details. That’s thanks to an IP69K rating, which means it can withstand jets of hot water (in addition to an IP68 rating for submersion under water).

Considering the 8/256GB models, the vivo V40 is priced at EUR 500/₹ 40,000, while the vivo V40 Pro is priced at ₹ 50,000. Details on the European availability of the V40 Pro have not been announced yet.

Let’s take a quick look at the competition. The Xiaomi 14 Civi is available in India for ₹40,000 for the 8/256GB phone. It’s powered by the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 and has a flat 6.55” OLED display. This one loves selfies too, with a pair of 32MP cameras on the front – one with a 26mm wide-angle lens and one with a 100° ultra-wide-angle lens. On the back, there’s a 50MP (1/1.55”) main camera, a 50MP 2x telephoto lens, and a 12MP ultra-wide-angle (120°) camera. The relatively small 4700mAh battery supports 67W wired charging.

The Realme 13 Pro+ is still cheaper at ₹32,000, but it also comes with lower performance thanks to the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset. It has a 6.7-inch OLED display (lower resolution, FHD+) and a 5,200mAh battery with 80W charging. It has a 32-megapixel selfie camera with a 22mm lens on the front. On the back, there’s a 50 MP (1/1.56”) main camera, a 50 MP telephoto camera with a longer 73mm (3x) lens, and an 8 MP ultra-wide-angle camera (112°).

The Motorola Edge 50 Pro is available for €530/₹31,000 (8/256GB). It uses the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset, the same as the regular V40, and has a 6.7-inch (1220p+) curved OLED display. The 50MP main camera on the back has a wide f/1.4 aperture (1/1.55” sensor), joined by a 10MP 67mm tele (3x) and 13MP ultra-wide (120°) cameras, and a 50MP selfie camera with a 21mm wide lens. The battery is small, at 4,500mAh, but it supports fast charging via both USB-C (125W) and wireless (50W).

The Honor 200 Pro is available for ₹700 in Europe, and costs ₹48,000 in India thanks to the massive Great Freedom sale (ending this week), and is the 12/512GB model. It has a 6.78-inch curved OLED display (1224p+) and Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, as well as a 5200mAh battery with 100W wired charging and 66W wireless charging. The main 50MP uses a large 1/1.3” sensor, while there’s also a 50MP telephoto (2.5x) and a 12MP ultra-wide (112°) lens. There are two modules on the front: a 50MP for selfies and a 2MP depth sensor for 3D face detection.
