Poland lost 0-1 to Croatia on Sunday. In the 52nd minute, Luka Modrić scored a beautiful goal from a free kick. It was our second game in the Nations League after Thursday’s game against the Scots.
The Croatians started with a yellow card after 2 minutes. Mateo Kovacić was penalized for a foul on Sebastian Szymański.
In the 4th minute, Croatia’s first shot was fired at our goal. Fortunately, it was completely off target. At that point, the hosts looked the better side. They passed the ball around efficiently and it was clear that they were in an attacking mood. Łukasz Skorupski had to save his goal after a header from Duje Caleta-Car.
The whites and reds tried to play further forward on the wings.
In 14 minutes the home team received their second yellow card. Pjaca fouled Zalewski and was awarded a free kick. The Poles had a big problem keeping the ball and getting out of their own half.
In 20 minutes the first corner for Michał Probierz’s players and, a minute later, Modric’s powerful shot towards our goal.
In the 29th minute Mateo Kovacić fell to the ground after being accidentally hit by the ball by Sebastian Szymański. The midfielder required medical attention.
After half an hour of play, the Croatians fired several shots at Skorupski’s goal. Most missed the target, but we didn’t respond with any action in the sixteen. In 39 minutes we attacked the Croatian penalty area efficiently and it seemed that the referee might dictate an “eleven” to us. Unfortunately, the replay showed that there was no basis for this.
