A spokeswoman for the German news agency said that the administrative council of the local transport association of the Rhine-Ruhr (VRR) is discussing a possible increase in ticket prices on January 1, 2025 this Tuesday. The Rhein-Sieg Transport Association (VRS) had previously announced on Monday that ticket prices would rise by an average of 5.9 percent at the deadline.
The VRS explained that in light of the widespread use of the Deutschlandticket on local transport, the increase in ticket prices actually only affects a small proportion of passengers. However, on January 1, 2025, the price of a ticket to Germany will also change from 49 euros to 58 euros per month, the Conference of Transport Ministers decided. The VRS indicated dramatic increases in personnel, energy, and material costs.
As with the VRS, the deadline for potential price increases is January 1 for the VRR and the Aachener Verkehrsverbund (AVV). An AVV spokesperson explained in response to the German news agency’s request that AVV will likely not make a decision on the potential price increase until November. For the Westfalentarif Transport Association, the deadline for possible fare increases is August 1, when ticket prices last rose by an average of 6.25 percent.
