Vladimir Putin has long been looking for a country that would ignore the arrest warrant issued in March 2023 by the International Criminal Court, even though it is a member of it. It fell to Mongolia, which could not take any risks due to its geographical location between China and Russia. The Russian leader visited it on the occasion of the 85th anniversary of the victory over the Japanese troops on the Khalkhin Gol River, one of the greatest defeats in the history of the imperial army, which put an end to attempts to conquer the Soviet satellite, which was then Mongolia. In practice, the most important effect of the visit was – as Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Heorhij Tychy wrote – “a blow to the ICC and the international criminal justice system.”
