The vivo Y300 Pro will go on sale next week, Jia Jingdong, vivo president and general manager of brand and product strategy, revealed.
The phone will be unveiled in China on September 5, and the CEO posted a lengthy post on Weibo explaining all the key new features, like the big battery and quad-curved display, and why they are important to the company.
The Y series is vivo’s best-selling phone line in China, and Jia explained that the company wants to bring flagship features to its cheaper phones. As such, the new phone will have a silicon-carbon battery—the same technology used in the vivo X Fold3 and Fold3 Pro. However, the capacity will be larger, with the Y300 Pro having a 6,500mAh cell—the first mainstream phone to reach that capacity in 2024.
The new higher-density battery technology allows vivo to continue building thin phones with this capacity – they will be just 7.69mm thick. The company also introduces 80W fast charging and reverse charging, and also promises that the battery will be able to maintain its capacity for five years.
The screen is advertised as quadruple-curved, a first for vivo, who says it will create a “fully symmetrical” look. It will also have a peak brightness of 5,000 nits, and SGS certification for blue light filtering and flicker-free operation.
The Y300 Pro will be dustproof and rainproof in all weather conditions, which could mean a rating of IP53 to IP68. We don’t expect an official IP rating, though, since the company doesn’t usually bother certifying its devices for the Chinese market.
The camera island at the back is reminiscent of the flagship X100 series, following the “360-degree sun design.” It will be a dual-camera setup, with the primary camera having a 50MP sensor. The selfie camera will have a 32MP image sensor.
With seven days left until the official launch, we expect vivo to reveal more specifications of the Y300 Pro in the coming days.
