1. FC Magdeburg continues to be involved in the fight for promotion in the 2nd Bundesliga and dealt the next blow to SV Darmstadt 98 despite being outnumbered. After a 2-1 (1-1) win against the relegated Bundesliga side, Elbestadters are currently the first chasers of league leaders Fortuna Düsseldorf.
While Magdeburg (15 points) remain unbeaten in the second division this season, the Hessians suffered their first defeat in their third match under their new coach Florian Kohfeldt and are bottom of the standings with just five points.
Livan Burcu (22nd minute) and Connor Krempicki (48th) scored the visitors’ goals in front of 17,311 spectators at the Böllenfalltor stadium. Isac Lidberg (11) put the home team ahead. Magdeburg ended the match with ten men after Marcus Mathisen received a yellow-red card (73′).
Darmstadt off to a good start
The home side started brighter and capitalized on their second chance through Lidberg, who scored from a few yards out. Killian Corredor (16) failed to increase Darmstadt’s lead. The guests punished it. Burcu hit the bottom right corner from the left side of the penalty box.
As a result, FCM has more games. Krempicki hit the crossbar with his head, and Xavier Amaechi’s shot narrowly missed moments later. After a substitution, Krempicki took a better shot and led his team to victory from close range.
