Viaplay withdraws from Poland
Viaplay will withdraw from Poland in the summer of 2025. The Scandinavian company intends to focus on operations in the Netherlands and the Nordic countries. It may sell Polish assets or individual sports licenses. Recently, the platform is no longer struggling to expand attractive rights. Telewizja Polsat has acquired exclusive licenses to show football matches from the Europa League and UEFA Conference League. Until now, Viaplay had them.
Viaplay Group generated SEK 4.48 billion in sales revenue in the second quarter of last year, which, compared to SEK 4.59 billion a year earlier, represents a decrease of 2.3%. With a slight decline in revenue, the company reduced its net loss from PLN 5.89 billion to PLN 120 million. In Poland, Viaplay generated PLN 193 million in revenue and PLN 2 million in operating profit. 1.48 million subscribers used the Viaplay platform at the end of June. When presenting the financial results, it was noted that their number increased year after year.
At the end of May, Viaplay stopped offering an annual subscription in the Polish market. A month earlier, a promotion was launched for access to the Total package for the whole year – twelve months of access to the streaming service for the price of nine. In the first 3 months from the moment of registration on the Viaplay website, no fee was charged, and in the following 9 months of the commitment it amounts to PLN 44 per month.
