The US Secret Service is reviewing Elon Musk’s since-deleted post on X about the attempted assassination of US presidential candidate Donald Trump.

Bloomberg writes about this.

The US Secret Service is investigating a now-deleted post by Elon Musk on the social network X in which he questioned why no one was trying to assassinate Joe Biden or Kamala Harris, unlike Donald Trump.

According to the agency, the Secret Service must determine whether the statement poses a threat to the people it protects. In the United States, threatening the president or vice president is punishable by up to five years in prison.

Musk deleted the post later that day, calling it a joke and agreeing that his words had been deliberately misinterpreted. The White House called the post irresponsible and urged people not to encourage violence or make jokes about it.
