Unreality of the left. Gosek-Popiołek criticizes resistance

Many politicians who, while in opposition, sharply attacked the then PiS government for securing the border between Poland and Belarus a year or two ago, have changed their minds on this issue since coming to power. However, some people – such as left-wing MP Daria Gosek-Popiołek – still believe that human rights are being violated at the border. “It hasn’t changed as much as we would like,” she said in an interview with Polsat News.

Neither the shameful behaviour towards Polish soldiers who fired warning shots on the border with Belarus, nor the death of just 20-year-old Sergeant Mateusz Sitek (injured while serving on the border with a spear improvised by one of the migrants), nor even the recent story with Paweł Rubtsov and his partner – none of these situations taught left-wing politicians that the migration crisis in Podlasia is the hybrid action of regimes hostile to Poland in Moscow and Minsk, and that people trying to illegally enter the territory of Poland, and from there often to the West, are cynically exploited by Putin and Lukashenko.

Gosek-Popiołek: Human life means nothing

Left-wing MPs continue to claim that human rights are being violated on the border with Belarus.

There are still situations where people from war-torn countries try to apply for international protection. And fail. There are still setbacks, situations where human life ends up meaning nothing. And this, unfortunately, has not changed significantly since the times of Law and Justice.

– said left-wing MP Daria Gosek-Popiołek in an interview with Polsat News.

I will have some questions for Minister Duszczyk in the near future, for example about the humanitarian patrols that are supposed to be created. Because we still don’t know how they work and whether they really help effectively.

— if such “patrols” really appear, they will certainly please Alexander Lukashenko and encourage him to continue his criminal activities.

Of course, we are also waiting for the solutions proposed by Minister Duszczyk regarding migration policy, but from my perspective, from the perspective of non-governmental organizations and guard organizations, not as much has changed at the border as we would like it to.

– added Gosek-Popiołek.

The left wants a “compromise”

The host said that in his opinion, if the United Right were still in power, “the Left would be a bit louder” when it comes to the migrant issue.

Some of us voted against the bill proposed by Prime Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz

– assured Gosek-Popiołek.

This is an act adopted by the Sejm in July that amends certain acts in order to improve the activities of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Poland, the Police and the Border Guard in the event of a threat to state security. The presenter recalled that Kosiniak-Kamysz described the attitude of the deputies who voted against it as “shameful”.

I am very sorry that the Prime Minister did not participate in the discussion in the Senate, because even Senator Borusewicz spoke clearly about why this bill violates human rights and why it is dangerous. This is not just the view of some MPs or politicians from the Razem and Left parties. It is also the view of people who know perfectly well how a situation ends when we give responsible tools to politicians who are not fully responsible. And this may happen in the future with this act.

– emphasized the left-wing deputy.

Many of us are still engaged in this kind of dialogue, which is very difficult, whether with Minister Duszczyk or with representatives of the law and order ministries. I still believe that some compromise is possible. Poland should not violate human rights. People who have crossed the border and have the right to apply for international protection because, for example, they come from a war-torn country, and we have such a list and we know what is happening, should have that right.

– she said.

However, recent demonstrations by politicians from the Italian and German left show that unreality on this side of the political scene is quite common.

It is interesting that a representative of a party that speaks of “responsible tools” and “irresponsible politicians” at such a difficult time for Poland (energy price increases, excessive deficit procedure, Russian aggression against Ukraine that has been going on for 2.5 years, Lukashenko’s hybrid war on the border that has lasted 3 years) is more interested in alternative topics, such as abortion or civil partnerships. And when he talks about what really worries us and is important here and now – the threat on the border between Poland and Belarus, he talks about it in an unrealistic way, “forgetting” about something like the simple fact that everyone can migrate to Poland if they use the legal border crossings at the same time and, what is more, they were not brought from the other side of the world to the Polish border by a Belarusian dictator and a Russian war criminal.
