Union Berlin coach Bo Svensson clearly complained about the length of extra time during his team’s 0-1 (0-0) draw at Borussia Mönchengladbach. Union conceded the decisive goal from Tomas Cvancara in the sixth minute of stoppage time. Referee Daniel Schlager gave a total of eight minutes for replay.
“I don’t really understand that,” complained the former Gladbach professional player. “Eight minutes is an extreme amount of time in a half where there is no use of VAR,” said Svensson.
However, the match was stopped for a few minutes in the second half to treat Gladbach’s Ko Itakura and Berlin’s Benedict Hollerbach. “I think there was a longer break because of the injury,” argued Gladbach coach Gerardo Seoane.
Borussia sporting director Roland Virkus, who spoke about a “dirty win”, was also surprised by the extra time: “I didn’t expect it like that.”
