The major Italian bank, Unicredit, increased its stake in Commerzbank even without additional state shares. The institution gained access to another 11.5 percent of the shares through financial instruments, giving it a mathematical ownership of around 21 percent, as announced in Milan. According to its own information, Unicredit applied for official permission to increase its stake to 29.9 percent.
