The Ukrainian offensive in Russia’s Kursk region is already in its tenth day and Kiev’s forces have no intention of stopping. What’s more, the Ukrainians are taking steps to help them conquer more territories. An example of such actions is undoubtedly the destruction of Russian bridges. One near the border has already collapsed. If more troops fall, Russian troops will find themselves in a deadly trap.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine have been leading since August 6 offensive in the Kursk region, on the border with Ukraine. Since the beginning of activities Ukrainians have already occupied at least 1,150 square kilometers of territory, which includes 82 smaller or larger cities..
However, the situation of Russian forces in Kursk Oblast is becoming increasingly difficult. On Friday, in the area (equivalent to the Polish district) of Głuków, Ukrainians destroyed the road bridge over the Sejm River.
The attack by Kiev forces was reported both by pro-war Russian Telegram channels and by Ukrainian accounts dealing with OSINT, that is, intelligence based on open sources. Importantly, The reports were also confirmed by the acting governor of the Kursk region, Alexei Smirnov..
The Ukrainian Armed Forces attacked the bridge in question for several consecutive days. They suffered losses because on Wednesday in Sumy Oblast the Russians hit an M142 HIMARS multi-launch rocket launcher, from which the Ukrainians were firing at the territory of the Głuków District.
For now, it is not known for sure what weapon the Ukrainians used to destroy the bridge. Russian Telegram channels “Baza” and “Mash” reported that the crossing was hit by rockets fired from the aforementioned HIMARS launcherand then one of the spans collapsed. Rybar, another Russian Telegram channel with connections to the Russian Defense Ministry, has a similar opinion.
Roman Alekhin, a pro-war Russian blogger and adviser to the acting governor of the Kursk region, claims that the bridge in the Głusko area was destroyed by aerial bombs. These are likely JDAM glide bombs, dropped by Su-27 interceptor fighters.
There is much evidence that Alekhine was right. General Mykola Ołeszczuk, commander of the Ukrainian Air Force, was responsible for the destruction of the crossing. “The (Ukrainian) Air Force is actively involved in combat operations in the Kursk direction. Ukrainian pilots accurately struck enemy fortifications, concentrations of equipment, as well as logistics centers and supply routes,” he wrote on Telegram.
