Scholz places conditions on Russia’s participation in Ukraine talks
Chancellor Olaf Scholz has made Russia’s participation in the Ukraine peace talks conditional. At the “Vorwärts” event on Monday evening, he stressed that in addition to providing Ukraine with the necessary military support against the aggressor Russia, a way out of the war situation must also be sought.
Like the Ukrainian leadership, he said he wants another round of peace talks, which would involve Russia. “Of course, it’s no use if the person who has to sit there says at the same time, ‘But I’m still attacking,’” Scholz added, referring to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Regarding the prospects for peace, he said he would like more Ukrainian territory. “I think that in this situation, what is always important in politics is clarity, firmness, character. This is everything if we want to secure peace and security in Europe,” the prime minister stressed.
