Two people died in a large forest fire in a mountainous area in the Greek region of Corinth. They are said to be two men from the village of Ano Pitsa: they set off to help a friend fight the fire and then disappeared, TV station ERTNews reported, citing the fire department. Two bodies were later recovered, but have not yet been officially identified.

Hundreds of firefighters and nine firefighting aircraft have been deployed in the area since Sunday, but firefighting work has become more difficult due to the stormy winds. Six towns were evacuated as a precaution. Because of the thick smoke, authorities urged the elderly and sick, even in remote towns, to stay in their homes.
