PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) – Former President Donald Trump says he will hold a news conference Thursday at Mar-a-Lago, his Florida beach resort. He will make his first public appearance since Vice President Kamala Harris became the Democratic presidential nominee and picked Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as his running mate.
Trump announced the event at 2 p.m. EDT on his Truth Social network and posted that he was eager to discuss Harris.
He had teased an announcement about the presidential debate earlier this week after pulling out of an ABC News debate scheduled for September 10. Trump had said he wanted Fox News to sponsor the debate, but on Wednesday signaled a willingness to reconsider ABC.
“I’m going to expose Kamala during the debate the same way I expose Crooked Joe, Hillary and everybody else during the debates,” he said on Truth Social, referring to Democrats Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton. “Only I think Kamala is easier.”
Trump’s running mate, Sen. JD Vance of Ohio, has criticized Harris for not holding press conferences or sitting down for interviews after Biden quit his presidential campaign and he launched his campaign for the White House. Harris sometimes answers shouted questions while getting on or off his plane for campaign stops.
