Mexico City.- Tropical storm “Helene” formed 295 km east-southeast of Cozumel, Quintana Roo, Conagua reported.
“This morning, #TropicalStorm #Helene is forming. Its center is located 295 km east-southeast of Cozumel, #QuintanaRoo. It will bring #heavy to very heavy rainfall to the #YucatánPeninsula,” the National Water Commission reported.
The storm will bring heavy rains to Yucatán and Quintana Roo, and heavy rains to Campeche. Helene’s path will also produce waves of 1 to 3 meters (3 to 9 feet) high on the coasts of Quintana Roo and Yucatán.
Quintana Roo Governor Mara Lezama said a precautionary zone would be maintained due to the impact of the storm from Río Lagartos, Yucatán to Tulum, Quintana Roo, and there would be a watch zone from Cabo Catoche to Tulum.
Likewise, the state government assigned a yellow alert level to the municipalities of Benito Juárez, Isla Mujeres, Lázaro Cárdenas and Puerto Morelos, which means moderate danger to the population due to the approach of this meteorological phenomenon.
