“In the West, stacking sandbags is a thing of the past. There are much better and more effective solutions,” says General Roman Polko.
The former commander of the “Grom” gave an interview to the weekly “Wprost”, in which he assessed the actions of the authorities in the context of the flood situation.
The military man drew attention to the behavior of the head of government. According to the Pole, the crisis management briefings broadcast throughout Poland are not a good idea.
I am offended by the briefings with the Prime Minister, it reminds me of Putin’s media briefings, during which interlocutors are afraid to say anything.
– says Polko.
It is impossible to express complete information about weather conditions, climate assessment and other scenarios in a few sentences, why do we do it? For the viewer sitting in front of the TV or for crisis management purposes.
– he adds.
Fighting the flood
General Roman Polko also cited the example of the Netherlands and its methods of dealing with the flood situation. In his opinion, the solutions used in Poland should be replaced by newer ones.
In the West, stacking sandbags is a thing of the past. There are much better and more effective solutions. Meanwhile, our crisis teams sit there, picking their noses, relying on 50-year-old plans and not investing in infrastructure projects at all. Over the years, settlements have been built on floodplains and there was no control over them.
– argues General Polko.
