If we look at the world population, the proportion of men and women is roughly equal. In the district of Ahrweiler, as the figures published by the district on its website show, the situation is no different. Only in the councils – whether municipal, city or county – this is not reflected at all. Rita Gilles, the district’s equal opportunities officer, looks at the figures: Not even a quarter of the council members are women – and not just now. Gilles has turned the statistics, which from a female perspective are not particularly encouraging, into an exhibition. However, it can also explain to some extent what keeps women out of these positions – and therefore what needs to be changed.
