There will be no new president of the Energy Regulatory Office for the time being. A new competition awaits us

Under the law, the Chairman of the Energy Regulatory Office is appointed for a 5-year term by the Prime Minister from among persons selected through an open and competitive recruitment process.

Rafał Gawin is still the president

Rafał Gawin’s five-year term as Chairman of the Energy Regulation Office expired on 23 July 2024. The Prime Minister’s Chancellery organised a recruitment process for the position of Chairman of the Energy Regulation Office, and the deadline for submitting offers in the competition procedure expired on 19 July 2024. Gawin himself told PAP that he did not run for the next term.

The Chairman of the Energy Regulatory Office, among other things, grants and revokes licenses for activities in the energy sector, approves and monitors the application of fuel sales tariffs for gas, electricity and heat, as well as network company fees. Monitors compliance with legal obligations by energy companies.

Develops guidelines and recommendations for development plans prepared by companies engaged in the transmission or distribution of gaseous fuels or energy, and agrees with development plans of energy companies.

Prime Minister: The choice must be perfect

At the end of August, Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced at a press conference that the issue of electing a new Chairman of the Energy Regulatory Office was urgent and that he would be able to provide information on the election schedule soon. However, this did not happen.
