France proposes “twenty-one day temporary” ceasefire in Lebanon
Paris, in cooperation with Washington, has proposed a temporary ceasefire for twenty-one days in Lebanon for negotiations between Israel and Hezbollah, Jean-Noël Barrot, head of French diplomacy, announced at an emergency meeting of the United Nations (UN) Security Council.
“In recent days, we have been working with our American partners on a temporary ceasefire platform for twenty-one days to allow for negotiations.”said Jean-Noël Barrot in New York.
“This platform will be published very quickly and we are counting on both parties to accept it”he added, stressing that war between Israel and Hezbollah did not occur “it can’t be helped” and called on all parties to commit to a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
“Chaos is happening in Lebanon”warned, for his part, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, during this emergency meeting of the Security Council. “We must all be alert to this escalation, Lebanon is on the brink of collapse”he insisted, repeating it “the world cannot allow Lebanon to become another Gaza”.
