Amid the latest controversy over swearing in Formula 1, Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff has defended Max Verstappen.
The Red Bull driver was finally punished by the International Automobile Federation (FIA) for swearing during a press conference. Toto Wolff gave his opinion on the case. For him, there are more important things to pay attention to than swear words.
“I think there’s an argument that swearing and swearing on the radio is not something that should happen. But I’m not necessarily against it. I think that’s what they say on the street. There are worse things than that.”
According to Toto, swearing is part of Formula 1.
“We want to have emotion. We want those raw moments. We understand that drivers go to extremes, but if we can tone it down a little bit, I think that would be a good thing.”
The Formula 1 team radio swearing controversy gained major attention after FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem compared the drivers on the grid to rappers, due to the swearing.
