Education Minister Barbara Nowacka has not given up on fighting the Church, attacking religion classes in schools! At the same time, she has assured that she will help lay catechists… to retrain themselves.
Barbara Nowacka, during the Poland Campus of the Future in Kortowo, Olsztyn, raised the issue of reducing religion lessons in schools to 1 hour from September.
You guys are aliens because you don’t ask me, and I thought that would be the first question
– said the Minister of Education. Therefore, the host asked him: “What will religious education be like?”
Education is managed by the Ministry of Education and, through the ministry, by the Polish government. The Episcopate deals with religious education. And it is at school that we decide, together with the local community, parents, young people and teachers, how certain rules will be defined. Of course, there is a concordat, which obliges the Polish state to organize religious classes, but I have read it a few times and it is not about two hours (religion per week – PAP)
– said Nowacka, remembering that from September there will be a religion class per week.
The Minister of Education also referred to the protests of the Episcopate, which “wants to transfer the responsibility to us (that is, to the Ministry of Education – PAP) by sending priests (for religious education – PAP), and lay catechists will not be sent.”
I will be happy to take care of each catechist and lay catechist. I will help them to retrain, I will help them to find opportunities to work in schools, because many times they are people who teach other subjects.
– promised the head of the Ministry of National Education and added: “let the Church think about who it delegates” (to work in schools – PAP).
We give religion an hour because we comply with the provisions of the concordat, but nothing more than what is written there. I see no reason to have more religion in school than biology, chemistry and history.
– said Nowacka.
Barbara Nowacka first launches a drastic attack on religion classes, reducing their hours in schools, and only now is she speaking kindly about the alleged support for lay catechists?! It must be admitted that the minister woke up quite late…

— The Episcopate in defense of religion classes in schools! There is a petition to the president of the Supreme Court. Will the Constitutional Court deal with the regulation of the Ministry of National Education?
